ABOUT LOWER BUCCA COMMUNITY PRESCHOOL

The vision of Lower Bucca Community Preschool is to serve as the leading facilitator of innovative, family-centered learning within a safe and supportive environment. We recognize early childhood as a unique and valuable stage of life, significant in its own right.
We advocate that every child deserves high-quality, inclusive care, and education.
LBCP was founded by three local mothers in 1952 and has remained community-owned ever since. Families are encouraged to actively engage with the preschool in various ways. Upon joining, families become part of the Association that owns the preschool. We embrace all children and believe that diversity enriches our learning community. Our natural bushland setting provides daily interactions with a variety of birds and animals, offering opportunities for learning about nature.

Our Preschool Programs

Lower Bucca Community Preschool provides an engaging learning environment that centers on the individual strengths, interests, and unique potential of each child.

Transition To School

The Transition to School program at LBCP is internationally recognized, providing children with daily exposure to nature through our natural bushland setting.

Bush Preschool

Our Bush Preschool program offers an enriched learning experience, where children have the freedom to explore, collaborate, communicate, and question.

About Our Preschool

We are a not-for-profit service that offers a rich, unique preschool program, set in a 2.1 acre natural playground with the original school building servicingh our indoor program.

Children attending the Preschool have opportunities to learn in our welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces.

We are strong advocates for outdoor play and allowing children to make memories and connections with nature. By responding to interests and needs we aim to enrich the lives and identities of the children and families of our preschool community.

The ‘olde worlde’ charm of this 100 year old school house is complimented by our educational program which engages challenging and hands-on learning in the natural setting of our expansive playgrounds.

As a community preschool we enjoy our close relationships with families and seek to create a relaxed, safe and inviting atmosphere where children, families’ and staff feel a sense of belonging.

What is a Community Preschool?

Our Community-based service is:

  • Not-for-profit, so any surplus is reinvested in the service
  • A service that advances education through the operation of a preschool
  • Run by a committee of 11 parents, responsible for governance and the future direction of the preschool
  • Supported by the active participation of our preschool community

What does this mean for your family?

  • You become part of the association of families who are custodians of the preschool.
  • You can choose to be a member of the Management Committee.
  • You can choose to be a member of the P&C and take an active role.
  • You can contribute to a positive future for our preschool and children’s education.
Preschool families have previously: built and maintained gardens, painted rooms, made lamingtons, bottled wine, organised Arts and Crafts Fairs, planted trees, sold raffle tickets, worked at maintenance times, developed our website and much, much, more.

Your family has the right to:

  • Choose how you will take an active role within the preschool
  • Form a partnership with educators and be involved in decisions with regard to your child’s education
  • Contribute to curriculum and planning decisions
  • Feel respected and valued in the day to day life of the preschool and are encouraged to spend time and share skills and interests

We hope all families and children feel a sense of belonging as they join our preschool community.
